The challenge

Johnson Matthey's Catalyst Technologies business operated across some of the world's most technically demanding industrial markets. Its technologies and expertise covered oil refining, petrochemicals, hydrogen, methanol, ammonia, ammonia cracking, sustainable fuels and industrial decarbonisation.

Communicating this breadth of expertise required more than promoting individual technologies or company announcements. The challenge was to develop a consistent international profile, demonstrate the relevance of complex technical solutions to different industries and establish the business's specialists as authoritative voices on the issues shaping their markets.

With audiences ranging from process engineers and plant operators to technology decision-makers and senior industry executives, the communications programme needed to combine technical accuracy with a clear understanding of what makes a story relevant to each publication.

Our approach

BCM Public Relations worked closely with Johnson Matthey's technical specialists, business leaders and marketing teams to develop a sustained programme of international communications.

A central part of the approach was identifying the wider industry stories behind the technology. Rather than focusing solely on product capabilities, BCM developed articles and media opportunities around the technical, commercial and operational challenges facing energy and chemical producers.

This involved translating detailed engineering and process knowledge into accessible, authoritative content without losing the technical substance valued by specialist audiences.

01.Ammonia Cracking & Hydrogen Carriers

Articulating commercial and technical opportunities for cracking ammonia into clean hydrogen at import terminals.

02.Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) Scaling

Bridging catalyst science with project finance criteria to accelerate bankability for Fischer-Tropsch SAF facilities.

03.Next-Generation Steam Methane Reforming

Showcasing high-activity catalysts that lower steam-to-carbon ratios and reduce emissions in heavy refining loops.

04.Energy Transition Platforms & Industrial Scaling

Profiling executive perspectives on de-risking clean technology adoption across fast-growing international markets.
