Fundamental error in Oil and Gas recruitment
Yesterday I attended a session here at the World Petroleum Congress in Moscow that addressed the issue of recruitment or as it is now called, “Talent Management”. As usual the normal themes of knowledge transfer were discussed together with the urgent need to attract youth into the industry. However, efforts to communicate with the next generation of engineers are often left wanting as the industry continues not to fully leverage social media which is the chosen method of communication for the very group that they are trying to attract.
Companies in the oil and gas sector should take a look at the social media profile of those employment agencies they use to recruit new talent. If social media channels where used more widely the industry’s visibility would increase, and with the right engagement so would the interest in choosing a career in the oil and gas sector.
Seems to me that perhaps BCM should submit a paper on this subject at the next major oil and gas event!
