Gastech
Gastech is a highly regarded global gas conference and exhibition where leading technical gas experts unite to identify, examine and debate key developments in the gas industry. Presenting an extensive range of quality papers – both technical and commercial. Gastech also provides an in depth analysis of current and potential future directions within the gas Industry.
Challenge
Events company dmg required a clear PR strategy to promote Gastech, and generate editorial press coverage in relevant international and national trade and business media and encourage visitor/delegate registration.
A significant challenge when promoting an event is to ensure that the PR isn’t too focussed on event information but that it promotes current industry news and developments and how the event will be a platform for related discussion and resolution. It is critical to provide editors with current and relevant content to ensure the greatest opportunity for placement/coverage.
Solution
- We distributed regular press releases to targeted distribution lists to coincide with key marketing milestones for Gastech and any current industry issues/topics/developments. Over many years, bcm has established a unique quality based contact database through which PR distribution lists are created using specific keywords. Not only did this ensure that the Gastech press releases reached out to the complete spectrum of industrial media, but that the distribution lists were well refined, supplemented by industry analysts and key freelance writers and bloggers.
- Regularly engaged with oil and gas media, generating awareness about Gastech. We at bcm have established relationships with senior media over the years and through communication at previous industry events, which meant that we were able to get in touch with the people who were most relevant for Gastech.
- Specifically targeted Dutch press nationals with personal correspondence in order to inform them of Gastech’s presence in Amsterdam.
- Leveraged off an established relationship with the media partners in their association with Gastech to secure editorial within target media.
- Assisted exhibitors/sponsors to generate PR to which Gastech benefited from greater visibility in the media and publics. We also actively sought and promoted exhibitor/sponsor news through our own channels (TechnologyNewsroom.com).
- Upstream daily newspaper – coordinated the Gastech related pages in the ‘dailies’ available each day at the event. bcm provided relevant content from the conference and exhibition in order to promote Gastech and keep visitors informed.
- Provided support to registered press attending Gastech, with a comprehensive online forum with information in order to assist them to report and create coverage for the event. This was an extremely effective way of keeping the large number of attending press informed and updated.
- Social Media – Online and offline networking was used to coax and encourage media and exhibitors to interact in order to promote Gastech to their followers
- LinkedIn: bcm developed an active forum for visitor networking and exhibitor promotion in turn acting as ambassadors and promoting the Gastech event. Promoted specialist papers in professional LinkedIn Groups within maritime, safety, oil and gas and energy trading sectors.
- Twitter: Twitter was used in the lead up to the event to promote specialist papers and to announce real time updates.
Results
Gastech 2011 was an extremely successful conference and exhibition with some saying the only regret was that it was not possible to be in three places at once considering there was so much happening. Gastech brought international gas leaders together to analyse critical matters such as unconventional gas (shale gas), the development of LNG concepts and the importance of diversifying supply routes and fuels.
- Around 10,000 attendees
- 408 exhibitors from 34 countries
- Around 100 press attendees

- Over 400 press clippings recorded worldwide
